Buses, trucks and cars whiz through Sloatsburg’s village center, barely slowing for pedestrians attempting to safely cross Rt. 17. Why would a pedestrian try to get to the other side?

Pick a day in Sloatsburg and lines of cars and trucks race from traffic light to traffic light through the center of the village along Orange Turnpike (Rt. 17). Pedestrians attempting to cross the street anywhere between those traffic lights (one at Eagle Valley Road and the Municipal Plaza) must dodge cars to safely cross the road. Continue Reading

Suffern’s Mary Hennelly places 4th at state XC Championships

Posted on 24 November 2015 by Editor

Young Suffern speedster Mary Hennelly continued her cross country success by placing 4th at last Saturday’s New York Federation Championships, the big cross country meet held at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.

An 8th grader at Suffern Middle School, Hennelly already is considered a state and national standout. She and her brother Patrick Hennelly, a senior at Suffern High School, became the first brother/sister duo in Rockland County history to win county championships back at the end of October.

It’s easy to see where Mary gets her speed as brother Patrick took the boys county championship in 16:17.25. In the county meet, Hennelly outpaced North Rockland’s Katelyn Touhy (also just an 8th grader) to win the three mile race and become Rockland’s female champion in a blistering 17:21.67.

Congrats to Suffern High School and the local running community which will get to witness four more years of Hennelly/Touhy races.

The good news is that the town’s administration has finally gotten to the heart of the money matters — a combination of an apparently incompetent auditor that helped produce a conga line of uninformed fiscal decisions by the municipality over time.

The bad news is that the average Tuxedo homeowner will see a property tax increase in 2016 of between $365 to $389.

There will not be any Genting gifts to bail the Town out this year. Continue Reading
