Right as rush hour traffic through Sloatsburg was ramping up Monday, March 20, a car ran off the road on Route 17 at Colonial Avenue.
The car banged into a utility pole, with the pole getting knocked over and off line. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The driver of the silver car told officials that she thought another vehicle had run into her, causing her to run off the road into the utility pole.

Route 17 through the village center has long been the focus of attention for many residents as cars and trucks often speed through Sloatsburg. During a recent NY Department of Transportation study of traffic in Sloatsburg along Route 17, the average speed through the village was clocked at 42 miles per hour.
Traffic calming in Sloatsburg was one of the primary concerns voiced a the recent Sloatsburg Complete Streets Public Workshop.
Sunday, March 20, saw another accident on south Route 17, when a car swerved on the road and flipped. Both the Sloatsburg Fire Department and Ambulance Corp responded to the call. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit the car after extraction by the SFD, and miraculously suffered only minor injuries, according to the Ramapo Police Department.
