Tuesday evening will see local village and town boards meet, from Tuxedo to Suffern.
The Sloatsburg Village Board meets Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. and will primarily report on various on-going village projects, including a report on United Water, an update on the village sewer construction project, and a review of the recent Pine Grove Lakes gas service disruption.
The Village Attorney will also address the board with a report that addresses property maintenance throughout the village.
The board will also congratulate Sloatsburg high school senior Hannah Consiglio on being named Suffern High School’s Salutatorian.
What’s happening with the mulch pile?
The Town of Tuxedo Board will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. and convene an executive session to discuss the on-going Perfect Cut exit strategy — otherwise known as the mulch pile mess. During an August 2013 board meeting, the town indicated it would be “getting out of the mulch,” as reported by TPFYI.com. The once-towering mulch pile along Long Meadow Road in Tuxedo has been a headache for the town since the infamous Four Corner Pond fish kill in March of 2012 that saw nutrient build up and “water quality impairments” cause a fish kill along Warwick Brook and Four Corners Pond.
Tuxedo contracted with Perfect Cut Tree Service, allowing the tree company to operate a wood chip facility on town Department of Public Works property — the site initially was set up to accept town organic waste material. With the fish kill in surrounding wetlands came intense community scrutiny of the town’s wood chip agreement. In March of 2014, it was reported at a town board meeting that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued a $15,000 fine to the wood chip facility.
Now, Tuxedo must come to an agreement regarding any DEC accrued fines related to the site as well as the cost associated with Perfect Cut leaving the site completely. Depending on the condition of the site, there may be remediation work and costs associated with preparing the site for what comes next.
Suffern and the Orange Avenue Project
The Village of Suffern meets Tuesday eveningĀ to make a board determination on a zone change related to the Orange Avenue development project that, if green lighted, would see a 91-unit luxury rental apartment building where the Hotel Lafayette now stands.
The Suffern Village Board has postponed acting on creating a special Transit Development District (TDD) zoning change until the Ramapo Central School District and Orange Avenue Associates resolved a PILOT agreement for the school district.
Suffern passed its own PILOT agreement with developer Orange Avenue Associates.
The Suffern Board meeting takes place in the Auditorium at Village Hall at 7:30 p.m.
