With a full moon to enjoy in the evening, Sloatsburg and the surrounding area has a busy schedule during the day as well.
After an invigorating weekend of leisure, wrap the whole thing up Sunday, April 28, with the Suffern Street Fair along Lafayette Avenue. The Street Fair will feature an Antique, Classic & Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, on display on Chestnut Street, between Lafayette Avenue and the NJTransit underpass. The whole shebang is sponsored by the Suffern Chamber of Commerce.
Kick it off Friday night with Characters Bar and Restaurant, which features its monthly Comedy Showcase April 26. Put together by Slaughter Stand-Up, a comedy group based out of the lower Hudson Valley that includes local Eric Albert, the evening includes a long list of funny men.
The show takes place in Characters’ upstairs room, with doors open promptly at 8:30 p.m. The cover’s only $5 and involves a two item minimum. But the bill is full and features Chris Lamberth and stars Adam Lucidi. So, now you know where to get your laugh on.
Down the road at The Tuxedo Junction Inn in Tuxedo, you can take in a night of blues jamming by blues Music Hall of Fame guitarist Bobby Messano, who picks up his axe at 9 p.m. and jams until you go home. The cost simply involves the drive to the Junction and the time it takes to kick back and enjoy yourself.
On the Saturday home front in Sloatsburg, Pine Grovers will meet to Groom the Grove early morning. Most of you can sleep that one out. But wake up in time to catch the Friends of the Sloatsburg Library Book Sale, which runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
While you’re out and about, visit the Friends of Harmony Hall, who are sponsoring another Got Treasure? edition, featuring renowned appraiser and conservator Ken Linsner. Dig around in your basement or attic, or search out that special hand-me-down from your great Auntie Mame, and bring your junk to Harmony Hall on Saturday, April 27, to see if it just might be treasure. The show goes from 2 p.m. — 5 p.m. at the Jacob Sloat House in Sloatsburg, NY, where Linsner will look over items and let you know if they have any real value. No coins or stamps. Got that?
Which brings us back to a visit to the Suffern Street Fair Sunday. Lafayette Avenue should be alive with people and food and things to see from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Just don’t say there’s nothing to do.
