Local photographer Geoff Welch captured this view off the top of Bear Mountain. Welch will open his month-long photo exhibit at New City Library with a Friday the 13th afternoon performance, mixing music and photography.

Geoff Welch is known as a park and watershed advocate. But he’s also known for having his trusty digital camera at the ready to take a shot of the local farmers’ market or far hilly horizon.

Curator of Harmony Hall, Welch has documented the seasonal changes in the Ramapo Mountains for many years, as well as clicking many of the good photos that appear in SVdotcom.

Welch captured bees hard at work on Wild Asters still flowering in November at Harmony Hall in Sloatsburg.

This Friday, Welch will kick off his monthlong photography exhibit at the New City Library with a performance of compositions on the grand piano, complete with a slideshow projection in large format and vivid colors and detail — look for Bear Mountain Enveloped in Clouds and Wildlife of the Highlands.

The textured presentation provides a nice procession of seasons and familiar open spaces — from big Sterling Forest and Harriman Park vistas to intimate local grassland or riverscapes.

The performance to open Welch’s exhibit takes place Friday, November 13, at 2 p.m. New City Library, New City, New York.
