The Village made a small adjustment to the Community Fields tennis courts. By repainting one court with yellow lines, one part of the courts was turned into a Pickleball court.
Pickleball is a relatively new paddle sport (perhaps newly popular to be more accurate) that combines elements of table tennis, tennis and badminton.
Village of Sloatsburg Trustee and Deputy Mayor Peter Akey said that he noticed people were periodically inquiring about playing pickleball at the Village tennis courts so he investigated the game. It turned out the cost of converting one court was nominal given the growing popularity of the game.
Akey said that the game is popular with seniors and great family fun as it shortens the court of play — Akey said he hopes the newly converted court is used by residents in the village.

The tennis courts themselves recently went through a renovation and repainting in the past several years.
The Community Fields and tennis courts are open to Village of Sloatsburg residents. Additionally, if people would like to play tennis or pickleball in the evening, call the Village office earlier in the day and schedule to have the lights turned on.
