Students got back to school Wednesday morning, a chill in the air and an eye toward the calendar and first official school holiday. It’s back to those A, B, C, D school days again.

Sloatsburg Elementary School welcomed new Principal Joseph Lloyd to his official first day, where he greeted students with smiles and handshakes. The Journal News photojournalist Ricky Flores was on hand in Sloatsburg Wednesday to capture a few moments (according to LoHud, and statistics, this school year marks the first K-12 cohort currently in class that were not in school yet on September 11, 2001). Principal Lloyd takes over Sloatsburg Elementary, without Michele Zeidman, who managed the Sloatsburg front office for some 30 years. Zeidman retired from the Ramapo School District at the end of last school year.
The Sloatsburg Elementary School PTA will meet for the first time this school year on Wednesday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m. The first SES Meet the Teacher night will be Thursday, September 18, at 7 p.m. SES’s Picture Day is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24.

Suffern High School also welcomed the Class of 2018 Wednesday, where Assistant Principal Dr. James Douglass told the class at its late August orientation:
“This is a high-performing high school; this is the third year that Suffern High School has been named a New York State Reward School,” explained Douglass. “We have high expectations of you. What happened in elementary or middle school is now behind you. Your future starts on Wednesday.”
