With money tight and every education dollar accounted for these days, Suffern High School has posted scholarship information online for students and parents to delve into and discover what’s available.
With the Ramapo School District’s continuing emphasis on upgrading district school websites, Suffern High School now has an impressive Guidance Department web page, with lots of information and applications for local scholarships. The guidance pages also contains a plethora of information on school curriculum, testing and helpful advice on the whole college application process.
Suffern seniors have earned an average of more than $60,000 in local scholarships the last few years, while the Suffern High School Class of 2012 alone pulled in more than $80,000 in local scholarships. That’s a lot of dough when you’re thinking about baking a higher education cookie.
Dozens of awards are available, with varying degrees of eligibility requirements that range from scholarships available for those who plan to pursue a career in art, education, law enforcement, nursing, public service and other fields. Other awards recognize good citizenship, leadership, compassion for others and perseverance in overcoming personal or learning challenges. Scholarships for academic and athletic achievement are also available.
Students and parents are encouraged to browse the information and apply. Materials can be found by following the top three links in the “Scholarship & College Information” box on the Suffern High School Guidance Department web page. Scholarships will be presented at Suffern High School’s annual Evening of Excellence ceremony on June 3.
