Posted on 22 October 2018 by Editor

The Village of Sloatsburg celebrates its 90th anniversary with a year-long series of activities and events, led by the Sloatsburg 90th Anniversary Committee, culminating with an October 2019 parade down Route 17 through the village center. The Sloatsburg Fire Department will organize and lead the parade. The village voted to form in October 1929.

Back in October, 1929, the Village of Sloatsburg was officially born, though this lower Hudson Valley rural community has roots going back to the Revolutionary War and longer. Back then Route 17 was already a well-traveled roadway that followed along the railroad tracks and rivers. Continue Reading

A Car Crashes into Sloatsburg House Thursday Morning

Posted on 04 October 2018 by Editor

New12 Hudson Valley captures the aftermath of a Thursday, October 4, car crash when a morning commuter swerved off Route 17 at Post Road in Sloatsburg, NY.

There is a reason the Village of Sloatsburg is focused on traffic calming along Route 17. The road is especially narrow in north Sloatsburg where it becomes a traffic sluiceway, a four lane highway occupying nearly a two-lane road with traffic that flows fast. Peak commuter drive time hours can resemble NASCAR jockeying. Continue Reading

Sloatsburg’s new field at the Community Fields complex has been seeded and set for the spring season

Posted on 03 October 2018 by Editor

The Village of Sloatsburg’s Skate Park asphalt slab had fallen into disrepair due to storm flooding since its 1980s installation — the slab’s surface had undergone repeated flooding and cycles of freezing and thawing. The asphalt slab was recently removed and the field was graded and seeded for a youth field, which should be ready in the spring.

Precisely one year ago, in October of 2017, there was a public conversation about what could be done with the old Village of Sloatsburg Skate Park, built in the 1980s. After much discussion and investigation, the Village tore down the old rink and moved on. Continue Reading
