With overnight rain showers scheduled to roll through Sloatsburg — turning cold and occasionally snowy — the Pine Grove Lakes Annual Egg Hunt has been bumped a bit and re-scheduled for this coming Sunday, April 1 at 10 a.m. — no April Fool’s. A much anticipated event put on for residents by the Grove’s Homeowners Association, the Egg Hunt takes place on the expansive common lawn called The Green.
So, for all those eager egg hunters out there, go to the Green Sunday morning because March is leaving like a lion. But come April Sunday morning, the day should be bright and shining and perfect for an egg hunt.

March is prepared to leave like a lion, with cold windy rain and the threat of snow. But by Sunday the sun should be out in full to welcome the official opening day of Sloatsburg’s Community Fields. Hudson Valley News 12’s Ty Milburn got a hold of a meaty local story yesterday and staked out Sloatsburg Elementary School to get the goods.

Updated for Thursday — Sloatsburg Traffic Bulletin: Crews worked until nearly 9 p.m. Wednesday evening installing steel girders that were lifted into place at the Thruway overpass construction site along Seven Lakes Drive at Washington Street. The 180 foot steel abutment beams were set in place on the new overpass span by construction cranes stationed in the Thruway median, where traffic on the Thruway was slowed periodically during the day by State Police. Even with temperatures dipping lower at night these last few days, the bloom is on the buds. After a few false moments of way early winter warming, green shoots are everywhere. Leaves are popping. Color pokes out roadside from early irises, hyacinths and yellow daffodils, and in side yards and lawns everywhere, full-on brilliant blooming forsythia. Let’s just hope the frosty morning temperatures don’t kill off some of these early achievers. Continue Reading

As concerned residents and environmentalists gathered on Sunday afternoon at the Four Corners Pond in Sterling Forest Park in demonstration over waterway contamination, the Town of Tuxedo disputed the source of the recent fish die-off.
Department of Environmental Conservation spokeswoman Wendy Rosenbach was quoted by Time-Herald Record reporter John Sullivan as saying that the DEC “water quality experts who visited the Tuxedo pond on March 13 determined the cause of the die-off to be a depletion of oxygen in the water. The department is looking into the mulch pile as a potential catalyst for the problem but has yet to make a determination, she said.” Continue Reading
